Indian stock markets, including NSE and BSE, remain closed today for Eid al-Adha, halting equity, derivatives and currency trading.

The Indian stock market will remain shut today on account of Eid al-Adha, according to the official trading calendar. Both the National Stock Exchange of India (NSE) and the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) will be closed for the Islamic festival Eid-ul-Adha, popularly known as Bakr-Eid, leading to a complete pause in equity, derivatives, and currency market activity.

People celebrate the holiday, one of the most significant festivals in the Islamic calendar, across the world. The festival commemorates the spirit of sacrifice, devotion, charity, and compassion, inspired by Prophet Ibrahim’s willingness to sacrifice his son in obedience to God’s command.

Meanwhile, on Wednesday, the Sensex ended 142 points lower at 75,867, while the Nifty held above 23,900.

Trading across major segments — including equities, equity derivatives, and currency derivatives — will remain closed for the entire day. However, trading on the Multi-Commodity Exchange (MCX) may have partial or minimal activity depending on the exchange schedule.

After May 28, markets will remain closed on select occasions such as Independence Day (August 15), Mahatma Gandhi Jayanti (October 2), and Diwali (with Muhurat trading usually held for a short session).

These holidays are part of the official trading calendar released by exchanges at the start of the year.

The stock market operates from Monday to Friday, with regular trading hours for both BSE Sensex and NSE Nifty from 9:15 am to 3:30 pm Indian Standard Time.

A pre-open session is held from 9:00 am to 9:15 am to determine the opening price of stocks.

Equity, derivatives, and currency markets remain closed on Saturdays and Sundays.
