The Indian government is addressing ongoing concerns from businesses by developing a standard operating procedure (SOP) to ease the entry of select Chinese nationals working for European, American, Japanese, and other non-Chinese multinational corporations into India.

This initiative, led by the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT), aims to streamline the visa process for these workers.

Many companies, especially those not part of the production-linked incentive (PLI) scheme, have encountered difficulties in bringing Chinese nationals to install machinery, which has impeded their efforts to diversify production as part of the "China plus 1" strategy.

These companies have often struggled to articulate the urgent need for Chinese expertise in executing projects in India, further complicating their operations.

“There have been instances where certain MNCs are shifting their machinery and R&D from China to India as part of a production and business diversification strategy. Delays in Visa approvals for the Chinese personnel, however, hurt such movement, and delay or even stall, plans”, sources said.
