Jungle raj won't be forgotten: PM Modi's swipe at Bihar Oppn

PM Modi said, "I would tell all the youngsters in Bihar to gather all the young people at every booth and have the elderly people in that area come and tell everyone about the old stories from the jungle raj".

PM Modi said Nitish Kumar and the NDA had worked hard to "bring Bihar out of jungle raj".

Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed BJP workers in Bihar on Thursday, emphasising that the era of "jungle raj" in the state will remain unforgettable for the next century. He urged party workers to encourage elderly voters to share their experiences of that period with younger generations to ensure its memory endures.

Modi asserted that despite the opposition's efforts to conceal their misdeeds, the people of Bihar will not forgive them. He also criticised the Opposition’s Grand Alliance, mockingly referring to it as "lathbandhan" (a coalition of criminals) rather than "gathbandhan" (alliance), pointing out that its prominent leaders from both Delhi and Bihar are currently out on bail.

The term "jungle raj" refers to the period when Bihar was governed by Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) chief Lalu Yadav, the former Chief Minister and father of the Grand Alliance’s Chief Ministerial candidate, Tejashwi Yadav. The BJP has consistently used this term to attack the opposition’s governance record.

Speaking virtually at the "Mera Booth Sabse Mazboot: Yuva Samvaad" event, PM Modi encouraged Bihar’s youth to mobilise at the booth level and involve elderly community members in recounting tales of the "jungle raj" era. He stated, “I would tell all the youngsters in Bihar to gather all the young people at every booth and have the elderly people in that area come and tell everyone about the old stories from the jungle raj.”

Modi praised the efforts of Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) in transforming Bihar, claiming they had worked diligently to end "jungle raj" and establish the rule of law. He noted that this transformation has instilled pride in the people of Bihar, who now confidently identify as Bihari.

He further criticised the leaders of the Grand Alliance, accusing them of being preoccupied with internal conflicts and prioritising their own interests over the state’s welfare.

Highlighting the significance of the upcoming election, Modi described it as an opportunity to write a new chapter in Bihar’s history, with the youth playing a pivotal role. He outlined the progress made under the NDA’s governance, stating, “In Bihar, work is happening in every sector, in every direction. Hospitals are being built, good schools are being established, and new railway routes are being developed.”

Modi attributed this progress to the stability provided by both the central and state governments. “A major reason for this is that there is a stable government in the country and in Bihar. When there is stability, development accelerates. This is the strength of Bihar’s NDA government as well,” he said.

He concluded by noting the enthusiasm among Bihar’s youth, who are chanting, “Raftaar pakad chuka Bihar, phir se NDA sarkar,” signalling their support for the NDA’s continued governance.
