Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy has announced a plan to name Hyderabad road after US President Donald Trump. The move, reportedly intended to capture global attention ahead of the state's upcoming "Telangana Rising Global Summit," involves renaming the primary road adjacent to the city's US Consulate General to "Donald Trump Avenue."

Officials believe this would be the first time a major thoroughfare outside the US has been named in honour of a sitting US president. The road-naming initiative extends beyond political figures, seeking to honour global business and technology pioneers who have shaped Hyderabad into a major tech hub. The list includes a proposal to designate a major thoroughfare as "Google Street".

Other global names currently under consideration are "Microsoft Road" and "Wipro Junction."

Chief Minister Reddy explained that naming roads after globally influential figures and major corporations serves two primary purposes: It acts as a fitting tribute and an inspiration to commuters, while simultaneously boosting Hyderabad's profile for global recognition. The proposal has drawn sharp criticism from Union Minister and BJP leader Bandi Sanjay Kumar, who argued that Hyderabad should be renamed "back to Bhagyanagar. “Taking to X, Kumar slammed Reddy, stating: "If the Congress government is so eager to change names, they might as well start with something that actually has history and meaning."

He further accused Revanth Reddy of renaming places after "whoever trends," and asserted that the BJP is the only party actively addressing real public concerns through initiatives like the MahaDharna.
