Delegations from Gurugram University and the All Haryana Government College Teachers Association met with former Chief Minister and Leader of Opposition Bhupinder Singh Hooda on Wednesday. They presented a memorandum outlining their demands and concerns, including the harassment of women teachers at Gurugram University, with no action taken against the accused. The delegations also highlighted the rejection of equal pay for equal work demands by temporary employees, corruption in university recruitment, and the large number of vacant teacher posts in universities and government colleges.

The teachers expressed their frustration with the additional non-teaching work imposed on them, which affects the quality of education. They also criticized the flaws in the National Education Policy 2020 and demanded amendments. Furthermore, they raised concerns about the lack of transparency in promotion processes and salary discrepancies. The delegations demanded an increase in the retirement age to 60 years and the implementation of the old pension scheme.

Hooda assured the delegations that he would consider their demands seriously if the Congress government came to power. He criticised the BJP government's intentions, stating that they aim to end the government education system and privatize schools, colleges, and universities. This, he said, would make education expensive and inaccessible to underprivileged communities, including the poor, SC, OBC, and farmers.

Hooda also highlighted the BJP government's failure to provide basic facilities in schools. He cited examples such as 131 schools without drinking water facilities, 236 schools without electricity connections, and 538 schools without toilets for girl students. Additionally, he noted that 8240 additional rooms are needed in schools statewide. He emphasized the need for improved education infrastructure, citing the example of PM Shri School in Gandhinagar, Rohtak, which lacks rooms for its 550 students, forcing teachers to conduct classes in labs, staff rooms, and verandas.
