United States President Donald Trump has said that he has decided to supply long-range Tomahawk missiles to Ukraine.
However, Trump did not disclose specifics about the exact nature of the decision.
“I’ve sort of decided on that. I would have to ask the question, where are they sending them?” he said on Monday evening.
He emphasised that he was not seeking further escalation, yet both sides have already intensified the situation, as Russia and Ukraine have launched several retaliatory drone and missile strikes.
“I’m not looking to see escalation,” Trump stressed.
Earlier in September, US Vice President JD Vance revealed that the White House was considering some long-range weapons, including rockets and missiles.
Though he did not specify details, it was later reported that the US was considering supplying weapons worth an estimated $1.3 million each, with a range of 2,500 km (1,550 miles), meaning they could potentially reach Moscow and further.
Meanwhile, Russian President Vladimir Putin warned that relations between Moscow and Washington would be severely damaged in that case.

He said Ukrainian forces are not trained to operate such sophisticated weapons “without American forces being present at the battle lines”. He also noted that attacks could target civilian infrastructure, potentially harming civilians.
The Russian president added that if missiles are used against civilians, Russia’s response would be “all-out and severe”.
Reports citing anonymous sources on Monday indicated that the US is unlikely to supply Tomahawks to Ukraine, as current inventories are committed to the US Navy and other uses.
Further, Trump’s inner circle expressed concerns about deploying Tomahawk missiles to Ukraine, suggesting it could significantly alter the dynamics on the battlefield.
